This was a much-needed review for me, since I've not thought much about learning theories and their role in teaching since I left the classroom. I first learned of the major learning theories in my post-graduate work to obtain my teaching certification and continued adding theoretical knowledge and frameworks in the professional development throughout my career. Sometimes, when you're caught up in teaching and prepping for your courses, you don't have enough time to process the theory to apply to your practice. Or it becomes second nature. I appreciated taking this course to return to learning theories after a break from teaching, time spent as a student in a new Canadian context, and after being able to take the time to reflect upon my teaching practice and pedagogy.

Overview
This Personal Learning Theories Map was a small assignment at the end of ETEC 512 to create a concept map to represent how we connect with major learning theories we covered in the course.
Course Background
​
ETEC 512 is all about major learning theories, applying them to instruction, and engaging in discussion and reflection on practice and pedagogy. We read about and discussed teacher-centered theories such as behaviorism and cognitivism and moved toward more learner-centered theories such as constructivism, social cognitivism, and social-constructivism.
